July 2004

Sure Happy It's Thursday!

Yeah, so as you can see from my last post, the $15 kicked in as of last week, which is really cool.

My Blogger profile is still the #1 hit for "Matt Loar" on Google. However, the new #2 hit asks the pressing question, "Is Matt Loar a Filipino transvestite?"

Questions, questions.

Yay for Weddingness

Well, in a couple of hours I'll be picking up Renee (hopefully, I haven't been able to get a hold of her) and heading off to Ms. Engel's wedding reception. Fun.

Yesterday was a cool day at work. I got there and tried to start Audit Check, the program I use to do my job, and it wouldn't start. Turned out none of us temps could get on. So we ended up sorting envelopes again while our supervisor tried to get a hold of the one guy in the whole company who can do anything to fix it. That was a nice change of pace. Then it was someone's birthday, so there was cake. But wait, it gets even better. Manpower called me in the afternoon. Effective next week, I'll be making $15/hr. Yup.

Then I went home. After having to call my own house to get in the door (no, Mom, I can't use my key because you locked the screen doors-both of them-and you haven't answered the doorbell, either. I'm going to install another doorbell in the basement, just for her.

Saw the Stargate Atlantis premiere. It was cool.

There's a scrape on the back bumper of my aunt' s car. For some reason, Mom thinks it's my fault, and thinks I'm hiding that I hit another car at work.

A) I didn't, and so I'm not.

B) I'm not the one who parked it on the street last night.

Anyway, she's going to make me pay for half of however much it costs to get it painted over.

Anyway, I'm not in such a good mood right now, for reasons I can't seem to pin down. Wait, no, it's because my mother is driving me insane. That's right.

I have to go to Phil Marsh's Eagle Scout Court of Honor tomorrow, whatever that is.

Did I mention that I got my housing assignment? I'm in Hopkins Hall, which of course is the westmost dorm in the six-pack, which is as far from everything as you can get. Yay. It's also a triple. I don't actually have to live in a dorm, since I have 44 hours of credit already. But I will.

Just about everybody who reads my blog should have received their invitations today. I got my check today. I hate federal income tax. I've never made this much money before, so I never realized how much it seriously sucks. Actually, Money figured out last night that if I made this kind of money all year long, I'd make $35,000 a year. Kinda cool, actually. Yay for the college fund!

Ciao!

Finally!

Chemistry: 4

Comp Sci AB: 4

English Lit: 5

Econ Micro: 5

Econ Macro: 5

Calculus BC: 3

-AB subscore: 4

Well, that gets me credit for everything I wanted. I don't know what to do about Calculus. I technically have credit for Calc II with a 3, and I don't really want to take Calc II again, especially since Mrs. Butler was saying that Calc II at U of I was more difficult than Calc III.

But I'm happy. I have 40 credit hours from AP, plus 4 from the Spanish placement exam. I'll be starting as a sophomore, and at the end of my first semester I'll be two credit hours shy of being a junior.

I figured it out, though, that if I retain my first semester schedule, I'll still end up with 3 whole years. That kinda sucks. Abbie thinks it would be worth it to go for the master's, though.

Update: I'm talking to Petey. He got a 5 on both BC and Chemistry! WTF? He copied Calc off of me, and he got the answers to Chemistry off the Internet!

Know What's Fun?

Getting a paycheck over $100 for one day's work, that's what.

And that was just the one day job last week. This week I'll gross $360 for four days.

Office Space was wrong. Work doesn't suck.

And Then It Dawned On Me

I just realized something...

I wrote a little bit ago about my Blogger profile being the first hit for Matt Loar on Google.

But that means that anyone who Googles me can now find my blog.

Great, now there won't be ANYONE who hasn't read my blog.

Oh well. I've learned to like not holding stuff back, all bottled up. I've also learned to like asparagus, but that's a different story.

I Haven't

98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't copy & paste this into your journal.

In other news, I start my new $12/hour job tomorrow. Actually, today I helped out Father Damien with some chores, and he wants me to come help him again tomorrow evening. Coolness.

My fourth was OK. Hesh wants married sex.

A Week in the Life of Matt Loar

Scholarship Total: $13,652

OK, so here's the 411 on what I've been up to:

Saturday-Found out I won the District 42 Representative Scholarship. That takes care of my first year's tuition.

Sunday-Went to the Fermilab presentation. New dream right-out-of-college job is being a Master Control Room operator.

Monday-Can't say I did anything important on Monday.

Tuesday-1-day temp job, printing crap out at $15/hr. Ended up kind of managing another temp, cause the lady in charge was gone for several hours in the middle of the day. But it's amazing what you'll put up with for $15/hr.

Wednesday evening, my sister Aimee tripped over her dog and broke her arm rather badly. Mom and I (Dad had just arrived to stay the night-he works in Wisconsin now, and is staying with her during the week until we move) went up to see her in the hospital. I returned home alone.

Wednesday-Got up bright and early to go to the Kiwanis meeting. Joined by Denise, Nina, and Renee. Meeting not well-attended at all-worrisome. Presented certificate to club in thanks for support. Afterward Denise, Renee and I distributed flyers for the concerts to local businesses. I think I distributed the certificate that was supposed to go to Mr. Ramsey along with those flyers. Oops.

Returned to Mundelein to see my sister. She was in surgery, so I ended up at her house taking care of her dogs and watching movies I've already seen from her collection. Then returned home with Mom.

Today-Got notification that I have won a $3000 scholarship from Magnetek (my father's employer). Also got a full-time 6-8 week job through Manpower, paying $12/hr. Went back to Mundelein with Mom. Got to see my sis, and then returned to Lombard alone for a doctor's appointment. Then came home and spent a long time putzing around.

Went to Blockbuster to rent a movie and get my own card. I am now a member in my own right! Yay! Got Master and Commander. If anyone reads this tonight, come on over and we'll watch it and have a party, since I'm home alone.

Also, I am currently thinking about going downtown to the Taste on Saturday, since they have fireworks at 9:30. Any takers?
