OK, let me rant about the latest version of AIM.
First of all, the option to turn off the stupid news window everytime you long on has been removed. Now we're all subjected to the day's news, stupified for AIM's typical demographic.
Plus, it occasionally will say that it is forwarding my IMs to my cell phone. But wait, I don't have a cell phone. OK, so I have the beta version, but it's still rather stupid.
OK, so two things. It still sucks.
It is currently 30 days prior to my 18th birthday, so...
86-0013577-9
...there it is.
I meant to get up at 10, but got up at 11:30 instead.
Finished The Fatal Equilibrium. It was OK. Now I want to finish Macbeth before the end of the day. If I keep up this level of productivity, I should be in good shape.
Emailed Claire about donation requests for Battle of the Bands. I have to arrange a board meeting for this week, but I don't know where I could hold it. I'll have to see, but I have to figure it out quickly.
Well, it's time to get back to work. More updates on the Adventures of the
Gooshiemeister later.
Okey dokey, here's what I got:
-Super Mario Sunshine for GameCube
-Strange Brew DVD
-Best Buy gift card
-4 new Bond novels
-Atomic alarm clock
-2 Page-A-Day calendars
Anyway, I've spent most of the last two days playing Super Mario, except for yesterday when I played pool with Kyle and Mary. Also, today Bonnie expressed her love for me. OK, OK, so it was "i love you" because you're helping me get rid of that annoying AIM worm, but still.
Lots o' work to do.
Logged into my investment account tonight and found this. It was too good
to be true, though. I double-checked the price and it's very wrong. In fact,
QQQ went down today. Rats.
than here dealing with my mother as she frantically tries to get the house ready for Christmas, when everybody's coming here.
MONDAY: Everybody here to work on new kitchen table. Went to Dominican U to pick up old dining room chair. Nothing else worth noting, except that I finally got around to watching the second Horatio Hornblower movie. It was good.
TUESDAY: Got car washed. Went to lunch/dinner at Friday's with Abbie, then went downtown to attempt to go ice skating. Line for skating too long, so went to shnazzy restaurant just to order dessert. Then Abbie met up with this guy friend, so I drove home by myself. Funny story that, but I'm not going to tell you. Then attempted to do Christmas shopping in one hour with $39. I so need a debit card.
TOMORROW: Well, it's snowing, so it looks like I'll be getting up at 8 to go mop the floor at church. At least that will earn me $5 more. Then, noon mass. Then, finishing shopping. Then, who knows what.
Kyle called yesterday to get Chris's number. Don't know why he wanted it, and didn't think to ask.
Oh, yeah, I was bored Sunday, so I decided to read Hamlet to find more
connections to Strange Brew. The Project Gutenburg e-text wasn't very
readable, however, so I abandoned that and instead read the Sparknotes
synopsis. From that I deduced that Bob and Doug were Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern, a conclusion I found was common when I did a Google search. I
think Brewmeister Smith is Polonius, but I'm not sure, having not actually
read the play. I figure I'll have to read it later this year, and why waste
time now when I have Macbeth and The Fatal Equilibrium to read?
So, Friday:
-Went to receive instructions from Father Damien after school.
-Abbie missed her flight, so I was planning on going at midnight to get her, but then Hank called and asked if I wanted to see Lord of the Rings. We saw it, and then I went back to Woodstock with him to wait for Abbie. It ended up being awhile.
Saturday:
-MIT deferred me.
-Went to my sister's for party and gift exchange. Got two new Bond novels. Rock on!
-Discovered that I cannot do automated signups with my reseller account. Now bummed, because I'm working on getting automated domain registrations with my new domain reseller account. I can even sell web hosting through the new account, but I don't like it as much.
Sunday:
-Tried to go caroling with NHS, but nobody else was there. According to Bonnie, it was canceled because nobody was interested. Oh well.
-Check out the Italian Ghetto.
-Trying to find a good use for my time.
You are hereby requested and required to visit The Italian Ghetto.
Got a letter from MIT today.
My admission decision has been deferred until March.
Darn.
You are the Gooshiemeister!
You're crazy. Just admit it.
How much are you like Maverick?

I have a ton of homework tonight. So, in my usual style, I'm still struggling to get started.
Chris still not in school. Chris still not doing job. Chris probably screwed on his essay, considering it was due the 5th but he had until the 12th to turn it in. At least that's how Petey saw it.
MIT mailed decision letters yesterday. Nothing received yet.
Got my listing on CompareWebHosts.com today. Also put live help on SamAMac site.
Ennsmann's stupid rule about band members being current WB students endangering Battle of the Bands.
End.
Yikes! 8:30 already!
Here's what happened hoy:
Still haven't heard from Holiday Embrace person.
Miserable much of the day, falling asleep for the rest.
Not much due tomorrow, but plenty due Wed.
Mrs. Butler gave us time to work in Calc, didn't get much done.
Scholastic Bowl practice. Fun!
Father Damien called and asked me to come to church to discuss something. I had to walk since Dad wasn't home. He offered me a job mopping the foyer floor after each mass on snowy days. Fun!
Haven't gotten much done yet. I want to finish my Olin application today. Fun!
Lab in Chem tomorrow. Fun!
OK, I forgot to mention the most important good thing yesterday, and that is that I got my first real customer for SamAMac. Woohoo! Unfortunately, it's a nonprofit, so my profit is small, and I'm still losing money overall. But I gain some utility from having my own sites hosted, so there!
Speaking of that, I was sitting in Chemistry today, at the beginning of the hour (Chris still wasn't there; he's either really sick or a whole day off wasn't enough to finish his English paper). Anyway, I heard Bonnie and Mrs. Holy (and maybe some other people at the other end of the room talking about somebody (I always miss the beginning of conversations)). They were saying how at the beginning of the year he just said "Hey, I made a website for you guys," and somebody chipped in that he hosts his own website. I'm thinking, "Gee, I wonder who they're talking about? He sounds like me." Then Mrs. Holy said something about how he builds his own computers, and I thought, "Wow, eerie! So do I!" Then Bonnie said something about a "shape table", and I realized that they WERE talking about me. It's so weird to have people talking about you when you're sitting like 5...feet...away. Anyway, then Mrs. Holy wanted to see the site, and she looked it up and saw the shape table and was impressed. Then Josie wanted to write down the address of the site, and Bonnie told her that she should check out "Maverick's Mate" because it was "hilarious." There's nothing like an ego boost to get the day off to a good start.
Bonnie left some books behind in English, and I ran them up to her next class for her.
Good things happened in Calc. Well, at the end. Mrs. Butler had said that she was going to check 6.4 today, and I had worked furiously to get it done during lunch, and had all but the last problem done. I forgot about it during class, but at the end she started to go around checking. I was frantically trying to figure out what the last problem wanted me to do, when Josie says that she didn't understand another problem (one which I had figured out easily with a little help from Petey), and so Mrs. Butler stopped to help her, and wouldn't you know it, the bell rang. Yes!
Turns out that we'll have a different teacher for 2nd semester in Auto. It's this new guy, whose name I can't remember. We had him as a sub today.
Made about $13K in Econ. Also aced the monopoly test. It was kind of funny. Mrs. Joyce drew a normal distribution curve on the board and asked where letter grades would go. She pointed to the median and Vince shouted "C!" Then she pointed to the right side and Vince shouted "A!" Then she pointed to the left side and Vince shouted "Vince!" Mrs. Joyce then drew an inverted curve and said there were really 9 A's and 9 F's on the test. Fortunately, I was part of the former category.
Well, it's Friday, and I have a lot to do and a lot of fun to have. See you
later.
Good stuff that happened today:
I finished the chem lab by myself easily.
I helped Bonnie out a little with her lab.
Kevin asked for me for help in Programming.
Finished the engine top end in Auto.
The meeting ran pretty well since Chris wasn't there.
Bad stuff that happened today:
Bonnie was asking people if they wanted to get together over the weekend to have a mass chemlab writing-up session. Kevin was included, but I was not. Don't know if that was an oversight or what.
Chris didn't have a newsletter for us.
Mr. V still got on my nerves, though not as much as usual.
MIT site shows no trace of recommendation Mrs. M says she faxed days ago.
I had a good deal of homework, which is still not entirely done as I write this. I don't care, though. Tomorrow's Friday, and I'm going to bed.
Good night! I'll have more time tomorrow, so let me know if you want to post
more details about something. Blogging is one of my few leisure activities
these days.
I didn't know about this!!!
Answers to Common Questions about Quantum Leap Pt. 4: "A former teacher
as well as a comedian and actor, Dennis Wolfberg (who used to refer to Gooshie
as 'the Gooshmeister')"
As you probably know, I'm supposed to be writing my English paper right now.
That said, check out these results:

BTW, we won both rounds at scholastic bowl. We're now 6-2 for the season.
GREAT!!! Mr. Blair extended the deadline for a paper from Monday to Wednesday
on Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Frankenstein, and only now do I realize
that it's supposed to be four pages long and reference a critical essay.
CRAP!!! Well, I spent all of Saturday at U of I and most of yesterday working
on the kitchen. I had scholastic bowl practice today and had to go to church,
but I didn't get much done, which is bad, because I probably won't get home
until 8-8:30 tomorrow. Darn it!
OK, here's a funny story:
A while back, Chris told me that Mr. Shanahan had pointed out that a lot of elements from Hamlet ended up in Strange Brew. The more I learn about Hamlet (I can't wait till we read it), the more I realize its true: Pam's uncle kills her father and marries her mother, her father appears as a ghost, the brewery is called "Elsinore Brewery" and is located next to "Elsinore Castle."
OK, well tonight I was looking around for the Bob and Doug McKenzie version of "The 12 Days of Christmas," which is from their album, Great White North. Well, I found a site that not only had their album, but also the Strange Brew soundtrack, which apparently didn't sell well and was only available for a short time in 1983. Well, one of the tracks on it was titled, "Shakespeare Horked Our Script," and involved the two of them debating whether they stole from Shakespeare or Shakespeare stole from them. It was hilarious.
Oh, and I want a copy of Strange Brew on DVD and a Great White North CD
for Christmas.

Ah, normalcy. I also scored an 884 on the ChemTest.
Well, let's see. I got up early to go to the NHS meeting. We had a yearbook picture retake. Chemistry was OK, we watched a film on Shakespeare in English, Mr. Avery took over in CBE, Calculus quiz was evil, Comp Prog put me to sleep (again), Auto was the usual, though Andy wasn't there, and Econ was same-old, same-old. I had scholastic bowl practice after school, I have to go to church tonight, and I have about 5 million things I have to do this week.
On another note, I'm not sure if Mrs. Marcyniuk has faxed that thing yet. GRRRRRR!!! I'll have to bug her tomorrow. I also have a scholastic bowl meet tomorrow. Yay. Wish me luck.
Also, I want a four-port USB hub for Christmas. I doesn't need to be powered.
I don't know that I have anywhere left to plug stuff in.
Well, today I went to Scholars Day at U of I. First of all, that campus is amazing. The first thing was the welcome in the Foellinger Great Hall, which is probably the largest auditorium I've ever been in. Anyway, then we had lunch in one of the dorms and saw what the residence halls are like. I wonder if they took us through the WIMSE (Women in Math, Science, and Engineering) section on purpose. Probably. Anyway, then we went to a session for the college of Engineering. They were talking about all of the opportunities, yada yada yada. What I learned was that at U of I, AP actually counts for something, unlike the 2 other schools I've visited. MIT accepts very few tests, while Olin doesn't accept any. Anyway, I would probably get a substantial number of semester hours from my credit, which I could use to complete my degree requirements early, take on a minor, or just slack off a little. Anyway, then I took the Computer Science tour. I really liked the CompSci building, but they'll be moving into a brand new building next year. They also have a CompSci club called ACM which is huge and does all of this cool stuff. Later I took the bus tour, and the guy thought everything was either "really nice" or "kinda cool." Then I came home.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun.
I'm having trouble coming up with things for my Christmas list. Oh well.
Friday. I missed the Civitas meeting. Oh well. Mrs. Marcyinuk told me that it was going to be sent this morning. That's great, considering she told me that it would be sent out by yesterday morning. Honestly.
Nothing else worth noting happened until Econ. After the test, we played this silly advertising game. It was stupid really, except for this part where I had to lie to Bonnie. But enough about that.
After school, I waited for Renee to pick me up to go decorate the tree. I finally called her house, and her mother gave me her cell number. Then I called her, and she was lost trying to find Farooq's house. She's obviously directionally challenged. Anyway, we decorated the tree (I forgot the camera again).
Nothing else worth noting has happened since. Tomorrow I'm going to U of I for
Scholars Day. Yay.
I just checked, and today is my blogiversary! Here's how it all started:
Hello. This is my new blog. I figured that I'd give this a shot. It's been awhile since I've had a web site of my very own(I maintain one for my school's Key Club, of which I am secretary, and one for my as-of-yet nonexistent company). I'll post whatever when I feel the need. Maybe this will compel me to write more frequently than I do in my journal. Well, it's after midnight and my statistics homework isn't done(5 lousy days, and I leave it all for Sunday). Sigh.....
Matt
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Well, I called MIT today, and you know what they said? They said that it probably got lost in the mail, and I should have Mrs. M send it by fax. Now they tell me.
Anyway, Chris is over, and we're doing Chemistry. I put off retaking the calc test until tomorrow. Also, the chem test has been pushed back to Thursday.
This story will be updated as additional information becomes available.

OK, so here's a quick recap of today:
-There was no NHS meeting this morning. I got up early for nothing.
-Mr. Bond-Harris gave an incredibly boring lecture in Programming.
-After school, I had Scholastic Bowl practice. Then Chris picked me up and we went to his house to play games.
-I had had a headache all day, but it got really bad just as I was about to come home. I took a Motrin and lay [I can never remember the stupid lie/lay rules, is that right?] down on the couch. Mom woke me up for dinner, but then I went back and slept until 10:30. Now I have to do my homework and try to get some more stuff done.
Oh, yeah, and Mr. V still gets on my nerves. Whoever is president next year
will be SO lucky.
Wow, I don't think I've ever gotten three comments so quickly before.
I don't think that Mrs. Marcyniuk sent in the MIT recommendation by the deadline, so I have a feeling that MIT isn't going to process it with the Early Action batch. That would mean I wouldn't get a decision until March, which would suck.
I'm actually done with everything that needs to be done by tomorrow, but a lot of the stuff I had planned on doing this weekend is, of course, not done.
I have to get the Olin recommendations out tomorrow.
Got lots o' Key Club stuff to do too.
Fun fun fun.
Key Quote: "He is against political correctness a witness his 1970's band,
the Texas Jewboys; their biggest hit, 'They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus
Anymore'; and his cowboy ballad 'Ride 'em Jewboy,' perhaps the only country
music Holocaust song."
I think this is just the kind of thing we need to restore the true
meaning of Christmas.
